Controlgear Newsletter November 2014

Controlgear's 28th Birthday

Thank you 2014 ....

2014 - an important year for CONTROLGEAR

It’s that time of the year again, when we all reflect on the year that has almost passed, and to be optimistic for the year ahead.

2014 Started well for Controlgear, having completed a project which involved supplying part of a turnkey solution for a booster pump station in the Sasolburg area. The client’s requirement was that they needed upgrades on an outdated booster pump station.

The scope for was threefold and unpacked below (with links on Facebook for references):

1. Controlgear had to design, supply, manufacture, test and inspect at works, deliver to site, rig and off-load, and rectify any defects developing during the warranty period of the MOTOR CONTROL CENTER, PLC PANEL and INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANELS for the upgrade of the booster pump station. link_8link_10link_11link 12.

2. The PROCESS CONTROL and AUTOMATION part was done by Instramac CC, now a partner of Controlgear. The scope included the PLC programming, Magelis Panel (link_15) configuration, Communication & SCADA setup in Sasolburg and onsite commissioning. link_12.

3. For the third part of the project, Controlgear enlisted the Schneider Electric Drive Competency Centre and the scope included the drive engineering, project management, design, supply, manufacture, test and inspection at works, delivery to site, rigging and off-loading, startup and commissioning, and rectification of defects developing during the warranty period of three 500KW 380V IP54 FREE STANDING VSD’s. link_7link_9.

The year continued to be a great year, winning a R12 million tender supplying ABB MCB’s. And then continuing with Projects that included supplying and commissioning a few projects at mines, glass bottle manufacturers and some power generation sites. See the following links on Facebook for references: link_4link_5link_6.

On another note, Instramac CC (link_13) now being situated at Controlgear for a year, decided its time to take it to the next level, and sold 61% shares to Barry Coetzee (link_14), who is a director at Controlgear. This acquisition allows Controlgear Systems (Pty) Ltd to improve their Process Control and Automation solutions.

Instramac, Controlgear and Schnieder Electric recently had a very successful roadshow at a platinum mine in South Africa, and it was a great success. Technical information was shared near the Schneider product trailer and afterwards we had a braai at the 9th Hole of a small quaint golf course. The drinks were flowing, and the boerewors rolls were excellent, but what was more important were the strategies that now exist between the client and us.

Controlgear and Instramac will be closing from the 19th December and will be refreshed and ready for 2015, returning to the office on the 5th January 2015.  For standby support there will be the following manager’s available to contact:
